O Sister, You Too?

We are not alone – the American filmmakers. Our sisters to the north have published their statistics and it is not a pretty picture.

You can read more details in Melissa Silverstein’s article here.

Here are some of the highlights:

  • Women directed 16% of the episodes.
  • 11 of the 21 series produced had no women directors at all.
  • 14 women directed a total of 34 episodes. Only 4 directed more than 1 episode a year.

One of the authors of the report who is also Women in View (a non profit organization) executive director, Rina Fraticelli, is calling for a 60-40 split: “No more than 60% and no fewer than 40% of either gender on set.”
